May Jones

I am strongly influenced by the environment around me. Whilst my subject matter is flowers, I do not consider myself a flower painter as my work is about life, flowers are just the Mode of transport.

The inspiration for my Collage and painting come from the colours, textures and pattern i find in the landscape around me, particularly in flora. Through my awareness of my surroundings I explore life through the changing colours and forms of the annual cycle of growth and its mortality. In the minutiae of flower head, leaf, petal and seed head observed throughout the year I locate the textures, shape and colours that inspire me.

My most recent series in collage and painting sees further exploration with an ever increasing number of textures ( to include: lace, tulle, tissue, newspaper handmade and recycled papers, gauze, sacking voile and netting) making use of the patterns in those textures. My work is finished with 3 coats of UVLS removable varnish.
